Contrast Premedication
Prednisone 50 mg PO: 13 hrs, 7 hrs & 1 hr before
Diphenhydramine 50 mg PO: 1 hr before
NOTE: Premedication regimens less than 4-5 hours in duration (oral or IV) have not been shown to be effective.
NOTE: If a patient is scheduled for an elective procedure and is not properly premedicated, he/she will be rescheduled.
(4 HOUR PREMEDICATION REGIMEN):
Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate (Solu-Medrol) 40mg IV 4 hours prior to contrast medium administration.
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 50mg IV 1hr prior to contrast medium administration.
Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate (Solu-Medrol) 40mg IV immediately prior to contrast medium administration.
This regimen is usually 4-5 hours in duration.
NOTE: Premedication regimens less than 4-5 hours in duration (oral or IV) have not been shown to be effective.
NOTE: Elective patients who are not premedicated are not considered emergencies.
